My passenger inner axle seal went out a while ago. It is recommended they are changed everytime the axle is removed. I guess after doing gears and lockers, then doing ball joints about six months later, inner seal failed! Had bad leak for a while. Changed both seals last month and Im finally leak free. Still, im very careful when re-installing the axle to ensure it doesnt get damaged.

Front passenger seal. 2011 JKU sport with 2.5" lift on 35s. around 28,000 miles. Dealership wouldn't replace it under warranty because I didn't bring it in for differential service. I'm not paying them a few hundred for a diff oil change.

Default Intermittent Rear Seal Leak!?

My driver rear seal was replaced under warranty @ 80,000KM.

Was under the Jeep last week and noted the same side had a small amount of oil leaking on the back plate. Call it a dribble that never hit the driveway.

Cleaned it up with break cleaner, wipe it all down....and monitor for leaks. It's been 5 days and 400 KM later....not a drop?
Not complaining, just looking for a logical explanation as to why? To date the Jeep has 182,000KM on the clock.

Very weird

Just bought CPO (supposedly) 2012 JK 2-door. 65K miles, stock Sport. Brought it back because of metal-on-metal scraping. Was first told, "brakes are brand new, they will wear in and stop making noise." A couple days later, rust all over my rear wheel. Sounds like when you have worn pads & they dig into the rotors.

Sure enough, they get the wheel off. "Your rear brakes are totally shot." Hmmm. Thought this was a CPO vehicle?

When they did that, they found one of the seals (driver side) weeping, so they did that as well. Thinking I need them to go through this whole vehicle like they should have.

both front axle seals failed within 500 miles of each other. first the driver side then the passenger side. 2014 jkur had 34,000 miles. Replaced under warranty and have been leak free for the last 6000 miles.

How many of you guys use the axle guides when putting the axles back in. And how many of you check the tubes to pull old guides out.

For the record. My 08 got the first seal change at 200,000 Klm. My daughters 09 I just did seals 145,000klm. My sons 07 Just over a 100,000klm still has the original seals.

The factory Mopar seals are the best. Do not bother with aftermarket. If you have trouble with Mopar seals I suspect it is an instal issue.

I always use the guides to help support the end of the axle shaft as it goes through the seal. I arrange them with the concave sides together. That helps keep them in place.
Cleaning the axle tubes is important, too.

mine were from factory and axle shafts had never been removed. I know it must have been a common issue as the seals were backordered. I did think it was curious to say the least that both sides started leaking within 500 miles of each other. I will say dealer did not balk even tho I was running 35's.
