Anyone know what the stock backspacing is on a 17" wheel that comes with the 2 dr X?

Thanks. My question is because I am wondering if the procomp wheels I am running is what is causing some of my steering components to fail. I have a steering box, ball joints and axle seal all go since putting these wheels on. The spacing on these wheels is 4.25 I believe.

Wouldn't that put the rotational force much further out from the axle and stress the steering components more?

4.25" is fine. This shouldn't be causing your issues that you mentioned. Do you wheel it hard?

Nope all street. Was just making sure. It might be something in the suspension itself.

Did the dealer replace all of those parts you said broke? If they did replace that stuff what did they say caused the problem. I dont think back spacing would even hurt your stearing box.

I had clunking in the steering, replaced the shaft and it went away. Came back 6000K later, replaced shaft again but this time no dice.

Someone on the other forum suggested having someone rock the steering wheel back and forth while I lie underneath and look at the sector shaft coming out of the steering box. Sure enough there was a ton of lateral movement there. Dealer replaced the box and clunk went away again.

Steering started to get sloppy later on, went underneath, jacked up the wheel and did the pry bar test and could hear the ball joints clicking and moving, dealer replaced all four, there is no play there now.

As far as what caused all this dealer has no idea. My only mods are the 4.2 offset wheels, 255/75/17 good year silents armor, a teraflex ss and a shrockworks midwith.

I had a 8" wide rim with a 4" backspacing and a 12.5" tire and never had a problem. On or offroad.

I'd say probably 70-80% of us that have changed our wheels on here have back spacing of 4.25 to 4.5....do you see us all having those same issues? I dont think it has to do with the wheels at all. I've put 27,000 on mine with no problems and I think I've wheeed it pretty easy too
