I am assuming the OP means the lights that illuminate when you put the vehicle in reverse.

I don't know if mine work or not as even when they work they are not bright enough, just like the headlights.

yea i had the same problem, and took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong so i replaced the bulbs and the problem went away, also when i replaced them i made sure the connection were good and they were getting power and they were, and when i put the factory bulbs back it the problem came back, so idk try replacing the bulbs it cost 6 bucks at auto zone and the bulb size is 3157. if that doesnt work the next thing you might want to try is looking at this write up. https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-write-ups-39/better-back-up-lamp-install-20249/ i am not sure if this link will work but if it doesnt u can search for it the title of the tread is, better back up lamp install and that should take you too it. but i did this mod to my jeep but instead of installing my wire to my break lights i ran the wires right to my batter and have a switch to turn them on and off when ever i want and they do wonders at night and even if you find out whats wrong you should consider doing it anyway because the stock back up lights stuck especially if you have tinted windows.

I have an auto and have not had this problem, but has anyone tried changing out the switch on the transmission? I had this problem in my '91 Chevy 4x4 with a 5spd stick, the switch was the culprit.

Mine has been doing the same thing recently, after owning it for a year. I noticed it happens more when its colder outside.
I'll put it in reverse and I'll have to sit for 5-10 seconds sometimes before the lights come on. I'll try replacing the bulbs.

I once changed the backup switch in the transmission on my Freightliner and it was a ball bearing type switch. It's very simple DIY job if your not under warranty. Here are a few types of b/u switches
