Default Ball joint install

Is it possible to remove a ball joint that is partially in place. Looks like I messed up the metal that surrounds it and I have to file it down in order to put the boot back on.

It's only been an hour, relax a bit. Anything is possible.

Did you put it in with the ball joint tool? No reason it can't come out that way. If you have to get creative and use sockets then go for it.

I can get it out. I just want to know if taking it out will ruin it. I did use the ball joint tool.

Using caution, it will come back out without damage. Just go easy and don't beat on it.

I just replaced mine last weekend. By the marks on the new ball joints you attempted using washers or something similar as spacers. I started my uppers the same way and they started to go in crooked, so I stopped and pushed them out before they were all the way in. IMO, the write ups that use only the loaner ball joint press that you get at he auto part store are only going to lead to problems. I went out and got a ball joint master adapter kit, and it made everything a million times easier. I know it will cost some coin, but do yourself a favor. I got my kit at Harbor Freight for $70.

But to answer your question about taking them out and reinstalling, I don't know. There are splines on there that help hold them in place when you press them in. If you push them back out, those splines will no longer be there to do their job. I just don't know if I'd take that chance. you may need to get in touch with a liscenced mechanic to see what they recommend.

Thread sure brings back memories.

I broke the first ball joint press, so I did a couple Harbor Freight trips. They exchanged it, no questions

I had to press one of mine back out. Use the tool and go slow. Mine was about 3/4 pressed in and just wouldn't go in strait.
