Default and it begins...

Alright, I've had my rig for a few months and am upgrading tires and rock rails within the week to take my first trail rides. As much as my first thoughts are to install all the cool things that we can see at a quick glance, I couldn't help but think of the practical side as well. That brings me to the safety items. Since I know next to nothing about the mechanics involved, I figured I'd turn to all of you that do. Soon I want to start installing skid plates etc. to protect everything underneath. However, I don't know my rear differential from my oil tank. So, what would you all suggest would be the most important things to protect underneath?

All your help is appreciated!

The first thing to protect would be the evaporative canister. There are basic bolt on kits or relocation kits.

Yes the EVP can is a great place to start. If I was you I would also maybe plan on a front bumper and a winch. I just don't think a jeep is a jeep without a winch. They sure can save you if you get stuck . Plus both of these mods are easy to do and this site can answer any questions you have if you need help.

your oil pan is currently unprotected. i would invest in a skid plate for that as well as the evaporation canister. a front differential cover would be good in case you OOPS on a large rock.
