Default Best year for the JK?

Looking at buying a jk 2007 concerned about first year bugs + others. Maybe I should go up a few years? Late 2008 model or a 2009 ? Don't want to end up with too many problems. Anything to look for when buying a jk? Any commments?

IMO...2009.

That opinion is based solely on the fact it was the most refined model year, meaning the least amount of changes. The 07-09s are for the most part the same, the 2010s underwent a few new tweaks, such as a new softtop system...and the new 2011s...well, yeah, they're different.

The 2007s are great jeeps, provided the recall work has been done to them.

IMHO--- Year to be determined....It's the year they offer a hemi option (5.7 or 6.1) or a turbo diesel. I'd also like the axle tubes and knuckles to be a lot beefier. They should know by know that we are using and abusing these rigs!

However, I am happy with my '08. It's been good with ZERO issues.

With the exception of some minor differences they are all pretty close together.

As 2k2wranglerx pointed out the '07s have better gearing options on the non-Rubis, but (I believe) some of the early 07s (non Rubicon models) had Dana 35s in the rear

In 2008 they started adding the tire pressure sensors, 2007 lacked those although they are easily disabled with a ProCal.

I seem to remember a lot of fuss about '07 (and maybe '08s ) having leaky freedom panels on their hard tops. I don't have a hard top so I didn't pay it too much mind.

Anything newer than '08 and I stopped paying attention

I do know that that awesome orange color wasn't original available, else I wouldn't got one of those

my 08 was an electrical lemon.. my 09 was pretty much FLAWLESS in the 18 months I had it.. my vote is for 09 being the best year.. the least amount of changes went on from 08 to 09...

07 to 08 saw some new electronics introduced with remote start, and the dash panel idiot light LED's were changed slightly into 08... the seats were changed slightly from 07 to 08 (rear seats on the 4 door).

from 08 to 09 the minor changes were purely cosmetic and very minor at that....

09 to 10 saw the introduction of a new soft top system as another post mentioned.. which is still too new to see how its going to hold up.. the 09s also seem to have had a LOT FEWER problems with water leaks than the previous years..

I purchased a 08 just a year ago. It is a late 08, the original owner bought it in 09 kept in 6 months and it was repoed, it had 8,000 miles. And it has none of the problems that everyone is talking about with the j/ks its perfect.

What recall work are you talking about? I have an 07 that I got used a few months ago, and I didn't know there was any type of recall on them, or what was wrong with them... Anyway I'll be able to tell if mine has the recall work done to it???

I have an 07. It should have the tranny fluid temp recall and maybe a few computer reflashes. They did it to mine a few months ago. Just call up any dealer and give them your VIN. They can tell you what has been done or needs to be done.

Build date is 02/2007.....4:10 gears on the Automatics and no issue airing down your tires.

Dana 44 out back and 35 up front.

ZERO issues with mine.
