Default Break in period?

What's the break in period like on these trucks? I take delivery Monday the 15th and am making a 2500KM road trip over the rockies the 24th... Is this "safe" for the vehicle?

The manual says stay under 50 at variable rpm driving for the first 500 miles. But I believe the computer is in break-in mode to 4k miles. After that you will see an increase in mpg.

Intentionally vary the RPMs frequently during your return trip. Please stop calling it a truck as you will get bashed on here. It's a Jeep. As for improving MPG after break in - may or may not happen. Here is a chart showing what my MPG did over the first 20,000 miles of my 2012 JKU's life. Congrats on the purchase.

Modern vehicles don't need much break in. Being you are traveling thru the rockies you will be varying the rpms and speeds. Canada does not have high speed limits so it is not like you are going to set the cruise at 85mph for miles and miles. enjoy your vehicle whether you refer to it as a truck, car or suv it really don't matter. I figure the guys that get bent about what you call it are also the guys that whine when people in other wranglers don't wave back (I don't wave back as wranglers are a dime a dozen where I live)

As a former Chrysler engineer and Racer (who also ran Chrysler Mexico for a time) told some Mopar people at a gathering one time...

Its not so much the number of miles driven, or even the driving style. Its more about the heat cycling of the engine. Get it to temp, let it cool. Get it to temp longer, let it cool etc... after a couple of those cycles, you are good. (the 50 mile mark seems to be a decent 'mileage' break in). Varying speed and changing oil after 500 miles is also a good step to take.

Take it for what its worth

I agree. When I raced, my break in was a 30 min cycle of low to mid rpms. Then I took it to the track and ran the piss out of it....
