Default Broken axle question please help!!!!

I was driving today trying to get home during a snow storm and was cut off by another car who lost traction and started to slide directly towards my jeep. To avoid a collision I had no other choice but to jump onto the sidewalk going about 20mph. Immediately my check engine light went on and I noticed the jump caused something to poke a hole in my oil filter dumping all the oil and also snapped my front axle. I just had a new baby and don't have money to purchase a new front axle. Is it possible to weld the broken tube? The internals were not bent or damaged, but somehow the tube cracked pretty bad. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all.

I think you would have to replace the housing. I think it would be extremely dangerous to not because think about if you were driving down the highway with your new baby and the welds broke. I just dont think its a risk worth taking. Maybe consider going to the dealership.

oh man, i'm really sorry to hear about your break - unfortunately, there is no real good fix for this and getting a new axle is your only real option. if your jeep really is still stock, i would recommend trying to have this break fixed under warranty. i have had one friend get this done as it seems to be a problem in the steel used for the tube.

Insurance should cover it as an accident.

Short answer is call your insurance company, they'll pick this up if you have the coverage.
Long answer is it really should be replaced. I wouldn't want to try welding this and rely on it.

Warranty or insurance should cover? Did you get the info from the person that lost control?

Once you get your new axle purchase some axle sleeves and gussets right away and install them.

It seams this issue is rearing its head more and more..... I am so glad I installed the Teraflex axle sleeves and gussets on our JK.

Sorry to hear this happened, but maybe it's a sign. Now you can start your build, and start with a new DANA 60

Why tell him to purchase a new Dana 60? He already said he is going to have a hard time getting the axle fixed. Sometimes we act like money just falls out of trees for our JK''s. Also, not everyone gives a damn about a new 60 anyway, the ones they have work fine for the most part.
