Stock JK TechBulletin board forum regarding issues with OE (original equipment) components of the Jeep JK Wrangler (Rubicon, Sahara, Unlimited and X) such as factory suspension parts, engine, transmission, body parts, interior fixtures and the on-board computer.
Let me know what you come up with. I have access to a 3D printer but I would be worried about ABS plastic melting with those engine temps but I have no idea.
I've decided to do just exactly what the code is throwing which is replace O2 Sensors on Bank 2. If you are sitting in the drivers side, that would be bank 2 since plugs 2,4,6 go to drivers side I believe.
So to possibly fix P0430 (catalyst efficiency bank 2) with o2 sensors, the mopar part numbers would be
1 each 56029085AA
1 each 56029049AA
Part number ending in 49AA is the after (downstream) sensor and 56029084AA (ending in 84AA and not 85AA) is for the passenger side?
If you wanted to go NTK on these the part numbers look like this:
NTK 23159 {#56029049AA, 7B0906262A}
FitsDownstream Left; Bank 2 Sensor 2; OE MFR:
orDownstream Right; Bank 1 Sensor 2; OE MFR:
NTK 23566 {#56029085AA}
Upstream Left; Bank 2 Sensor 1
If you go NTK its about half price. $75 per side or $150 for all 4 sensors. Mopar is $150 per side and $300 for all 4 sensors. I'm really tempted to throw $75 at it instead of $150.
Just wanted to make sure before I order the parts. Code is back up so here we go. Think this o2 Sensor socket is worth the $14?
So for anyone reading all the way though this, I decided to just replace the sensors in Bank 2 (drivers side) and I also decided to just go with the NTK sensors rather than Mopar. My theory was to spend as little money as possible up front on emissions especially when I have 2 years to play with it before I am due for inspection. So i hit both sensors with PB blaster for like a week as advised by this forum and got a O2 sensor socket from Home Depot for $11. Both 02 sensors were a breeze but the down stream I did have to remove the transmission skid to access it easier. Very easy job to replace the 02 sensors at least on bank 2 but I would spend the time hitting it with PB first for a bit. Here are some pics of the sensors so people can see. The down stream was almost a match while the up stream was slightly different.
So far no codes at all. I'll update if this fixed me up. I would normally get the cat efficiency bank 2 code by 2 or 300 miles.
Glad to hear you were able to get them out with relative ease. Hopefully the code stays gone.
It's only because I took your advice and kroil and PB blasted them non stop for like a week straight. I was actually doing it when I got home at night and letting it sit over night and then again in the am before my drive.
Thread Update 5/5/20 - I did get the Code back after a trip down to Baja over the weekend. It was about 400 miles round trip and at the very end about a mile away from my house the check engine light came on. Got it home and checked P0430 - Cat efficiency bank 2. So it appears that the new NTK sensors did not solve my issue and that it appears it will need a new Catalytic Converter. It was worth a try I guess and I can still do the other side in NTK and save a few $$ there. I am still unable to find these parts any cheaper than $1200 here in California.
I was looking and all the ones i see say not legal in Ca! That sucks! no wonder it is so expensive.
It's annoying because I didn't want to drop that type of coin at 180k. I may just leave it for 2 years and see if I can get it to pass emissions again in 2 years. No way I'd have it more than 4 more. Im already looking right now with the zombie apocalypse.
