Default CB Recommendations

Just signed up for a Jeep Jamboree at Penn's Woods in PA and they are recommending everyone have a CB. I will probably use it infrequently beyond the Jamboree.

Recommendations with pros/cons will be appreciated!

Antenna suggestions as well, please.

All depends how often your gonna use it, I only use it occasionally on club off road rides so I got the handheld midland model and it works great

I have the mount that puts a fire stick antenna on the spare tire holder and I am very happy with that setup

Like you, I ill probably use a CB very infrequently. It's beginning to sound like a handheld may be the way for me to go.

I've got this same setup & love it. I put a quick disconnect on my antenna so I can take it off when not in use

I have the Bearcat 880. Amazon just had a sale for it. Picked it up for $90.

Thing is awesome! Granted a CB is a CB, but it looks and works great.

I've been checking out various CB sellers web sites to learn as much as I can and have a few questions regarding antennas. I've learned of the major brands and various types, quality, etc. Since I don't foresee using the CB a lot, can you give me your opinions on the various ones out there?

What and how much is lost using a short magnetic base antenna compared to the 3' and longer versions typically seen on Jeeps?

Also, if I decide to go with the more traditional longer type antenna, does anyone have any photos of their antenna installations, including how they run the cable? I really like "clean" looking installs and like to avoid the cluttered look. Is drilling required or how do you hide the cabling effectively?

Is a "tunable tip" necessary?

I've been leaning to one of two types of CB's, the Cobra 75 WX ST or a handheld something like the Cobra HH 38 WX ST Handheld. How much is given up, if anything, with a handheld? I assume range is one thing. Anything else?

Look up cooltechllc's cb package, it's a great price at 200 and has everything you need and gives a clean look

You may want to consider the Midland 75-822. It can be both a hand held and jeep mounted CB. Very comparable to the Cobra 75 sxt with a battery & stubby antenna for hand held use. I'm very happy with mine.

I would like to thank everyone that has contributed so far in answering my questions. I'm still open to hear from anyone else who would like to offer their opinions and suggestions.

Thanks!
