Default changed rear diff fluid and now axle seal is leaking.

So I just changed my rear diff fluid at 15,000 and now my divers side rear axle seal is leaking. I put 2.2 quarts of synthetic 75-90 in it, so I don't think its to full.

So now my question, is this synthetic to thin which is allowing it to get by the seal on a 100 degree day? Also if I changed it to dino 80-90 like is recommended by the owners manual would this fix this problem?

Also when I was adding this oil to the diff I did notice that it seemed really thin compared to factory gear oil that I drained out. Any help would be great.

Its leaking enough to drip on my wheel and fling off the tire. I just did a trip this last weekend with my boat and four people in the jeep and it was 100 degrees out, so maybe that oil got really hot and thin?

Well I think I'm going to drain the oil tonight and put non synthetic 80-90 in it and cross my fingers that it stops leaking. I really will be pissed if I have to replace the seal and bearing assembly at 15,000 miles!

I think 2.2 is too much.

This info from Project JK - The Front differential only needs 2.7 pints (1.35 quarts) and the rear only needs 4.75 pints (2.375 quarts).

I had to replace my axle seal and bearing assembly last month with 16,500 miles. Leaked for about a month and I could see it on my back glass where it was slinging it. Do these things have an over flow vent on them?

The diffs are vented. If you overfill it will burp out.

Have heard of some guys having issues with weeping seals when switch to synthetic gear oil.
