Default Check Engine Light came on.

My check engine light came on while cruizing some fsr's today. Pulled over, checked the fluids, than unhooked the battery to "reset" the computer, but the light stayed on. Jeep ran fine, and kept wheeling for a couple more hours. Is there anyway I can check codes or something before driving the 2 plus hours to the dealorship?

My 2010 sport did this kinda thing to me as well turned out to be that when I was filling up the last time I either didn't turn the gas gap until it clicked or there was some Debris in the seal and the gas cap wasn't sealing properly. I sprayed a lubricant on the cap and where it screws in and by the next fill the ilight went out.

Hope it helps.

Bring your jeep to any major auto parts store and they will let you use their OBD2 scan tool. Jot down the code or codes and post them here or look them up in the book. If you post the codes I can tell you what they are.

Here is what your codes mean....

http://www.rei.com/pdf/expertadvice/...ly+camping.pdf

Here is how you check...

Instructions
Step 1: Turn your car key to the 'on' position without starting the car.

Step 2: Rapidly, but carefully turn your car key to the 'accessory' setting then back to 'on' three times.
** * * * * * Take note that the engine should not start at any time during this process.
** * * * * * Switching the engine on and off rapidly can damage your engine.
** * * * * * If your engine does start at any time during this process switch it off and go to step 1.

Step 3: Record any error codes which appear on the dash board
** * * * * * Once completed the dash will say "done"

Don't mean to hijack, but when I start my jeep the engine light does not illuminate...what does that mean? Have had the jeep for a month and it runs fine. Has 19k miles

All lights should come on initially for a "bulb" check when you initially turn on the ignition, but before you actually crank it (next detent). If that light never comes on, then the bulb (probably an LED) is burned out. That probably requires replacing the circuit card behind the dash, since I expect it's all soldered together. Sounds like a trip to the dealer for you.

so i've tried the key dance several times. it's not showing codes, it just comes up blank, and than says "dOnE". I'm going to recheck the oil, blow the dust out of the air cleaner, and disconnect the battery again for a few minutes and see what happens. If the light comes back on, I'll try and get the codes to come up again.

got it to work...

P0038, which is according to Quadratech: 02 Sensor 1/2 Heator Circuit High. So uh, what the heck does this mean? New sensor maybe, or something more serious?
