Default Cloth vs Leather seats

I have always got cloth seats because I have 3 kids and I like splashing through streams with the top off with enough speed to get the kids wet in the back of my JKUR. I going to be getting a new JKUR in a few months and I'm really liking the Rubi X, but not sure about the leather seats. How do leather seats hold up to getting wet? Would I be better off selling the leather seats and putting in Master Craft or some kind of other cloth seats?

I asked good friend about this before I got my leather seats......hes a huge outdoors guy, hunts, off roads.....like all the time.....he always runs leather. His basic reply was cows are out in the snow and rain and mud all the time...works pretty good for them. Point taken haha

Leather tends to be better than cloth for most scenarios. It's water repellent, and is especially good for cleaning up after your kids.

I see your point, but I would think they might take longer to dry, and this cause them to get kind of funky. Live cows have heat coming from inside, and hair on the outside, so close, but not the same.

I have a leather seat on my motorcycle. A year old and it's still waterproof. I know there are lotions you can use to extend this. Most tack/saddle shops have these. Or check out Corbin.com (mc seat manufacturer), they sell a lotion to treat their seats for water repellency.

All this said, I'm still not in favor of leather seats in an off road vehicle. I'd rather have neoprene seat covers.

The leather is very durable. My wife's '10 has it and its so much easier to clean. The seats wipe dry. The only draw back is they get hot in direct sunlight.
I got cloth in my '11. Dog hair, dirt, etc all stick to them. It's a never ending battle. I wish I'd gotten leather and towel to put over them in the summer. I've got a set of trek armor seat covers on order.

Go Leather-had it in my 2003 Chev. truck use to do home building for years and always had leather as was easy to kept clean and take care of, sold it in 2011 and got a 2012 jeep and got leather in that and it wears well. Just take care of it and it will wear well for you.

I had leather in my F250 and loved it. Opted for cloth in my Jeep because I thought it would be easier in the summer. The only thing I worry about is the black fading overtime. I do keep my Jeep covered at work and have Trailmesh shade on it. Kinda thinking I should have gotten leather...

Never have had a problem with my black cloth seats fading, and the only time I have my top on in the summer is when it's, or for long road trips to trails where I full of gear. Then top comes off once we get unloaded. Run a mesh top about 25% of the time I'm topless and about have that time I only have the back mesh on because the kids want it on.
