Default Clutch problem...

I have a problem. Driving home from the gym tonight my clutch started making a popping/cracking sound. About every 4th or 5th time I press in the clutch to shift gears it sounds like it's cracking and I can feel it in my foot. I've read many posts on here about a squeling sound coming from the clutch, but this is different. I'm wondering if it is worn out already?? I only have 16,000 kn on it. Thanks for the help.

I just found on the net that it is most likely the clutch linkage in need of greasing/lubrication! Can anybody tell me where I would grease?? I'm not all that familiar with clutches.

I have this problem as well. There is a TSB for the clutch disk squeal/squeak when the clutch is depressed, but I'm not convinced it is the same issue. I've had mine in to the dealer twice and they were "unable to replicate".

I have noticed that this only occurrs when the jeep has been driven for about 10-15 miles.

Mine is so bad that after this 10-15 mile window, it happens every time i depress or release the clutch. It sounds like a cable stretching or some sort of creeking/cracking. I know there are no cables in the clutch linkage, so i'm thinking it is a spring or other piece of the linkage. Worst case it is the diaphragm spring in the clutch itself. I'll post an update for sure if I get it fixed.

Thanks, much appreciated! I read somewhere that it's a clutch lubrication issue, have you to lubricate it?

ih ave a popping sound too .. when i press my clutch in from start up and every time i have to stop and then go again.

Been going on since november last year about.. never thought more to it .. than just a sound being made. Didn't start til' my lift and doing lots of offroading though.

Im going to be greasing all my linkage in the front for the first time tonight.

Default Have you checked the clutch hydraulic line?

There is a clutch hydraulic line that frequently clanks against the heat shield. This may not be you problem, but in case it is...

Under the hood, look at the firewall just under your steering column. there is a metal shield of super thin shinny material. Now, coming from the clutch hydraulic master at the top of the firewall is a line, running behind the heat shield, down the firewall and finally to the tranmission bell housing.

Many have had to bend the heat shield, or put split fuel line around it to keep it from clunking on the heat shield.

This is likely not your problem, but it only takes 2 minutes to eliminate the possibility.

Good Luck
