Default Compass Problems

I've been having compass issues in my 2010. For some reason, I can calibrate the way the owners manual says but its always just the opposite of the correct direction. For example, if I'm driving NE the compass says SW. I guess it thinks I'm in Australia and not Nashville, Tennessee....

Any thoughts? It's been calibrated about 4 times now and still wrong. The only thing I did was put my K&N Air filter back in and I pulled the negative battery terminal to reset the computer. I thought that might have caused it, but it didn't start screwing up until 3 or 4 days after I did that.

Do you have any electronice over the radio cover. I've heard that can interfere with the compass. If you are under warranty you should take it to the dealer. Good luck.

There are definitely gremlins in these things somewhere. The compass in my 09 just started getting squirley a couple days ago. Says I'm going East when I know I'm traveling due North. 20 minutes later it seemed to be ok. This morning it said I was going South West when I was going South East...

Sometimes mine takes a little bit before it realizes were its going. Changes slow is what I am trying to say. I am not sure if that is normal or not.

Based on your description, it's probably not this. But....

It's possible the compass head is installed 180° out.

The power cord should be on the driver's side.

As mentioned above, electronics? Cell phones will mess with them as well.

Have you installed a Daystar panel? If so it is easy to turn the module the wrong way...

I installed the Daystar dash cover and anything that you put in the holder that is magnetic knocks the compass out. Cell phone, even glassed that have the magnetic clip on sunglass, a pen that lights up that had little batteries in it also.

Even when I mount my GPS on the windshield the factory compass is knocked out. Of course, that's not a big deal, but it reinforces what everyone says about it being sensitive.

Welcome, Jeep fam. Probably seen you around town. What JK do you drive?

Default compass

I found on my 2009 that if I put my cell phone or keys up on the aftermarket tray, it would screw up the magnetic issues with the compass. I love the new tray on my 2011. No problems
