Confirming bad Clockspring
#11
Chrysler acknowledges problems on 07 and 08's. Maybe an issue on some 09's too as my cock spring got done about 4 months ago at 35k miles (just squeeked in under factory warranty). The chrysler/jeep tech told me he has seen others and this is more of a problem on jeeps that frequently drive without a top on or with the windows rolled down all the time in dusty places....good design on this part for a vehicle targeted at exactly those two things!
In this case, I think cock spring is EXACTLY the right pronunciation.

airbag light issue
Mine just started coming on intermittently 2 days ago. I called the stealership and so far he said the recall is only for 07's and right hand drive 08's. I am not yet sure that it is the clockspring as my horn and cruise control still work. The service dude quoted an new clockspring at $270, but I am going to do some more trouble shooting prior to replacing that part.

Took my JK into the dealer for the Cock Spring,,,, I mean Clock Spring. Well it came out of the show on December 28th good to go. On the 6th of January I get a letter in the mail stating that the warranty has been extended on this part for 10 year or 150,000 mile. If you have had it done you need the paper work on it. Scan it or mail it to Chrysler Care Center and they will send a refund on the cost. It stated this was for 2007, and 2008 JK's. Let me know if any one wants a copy of the letter.
could you pm a copy of the letter to me, the dealership said my vin (2008) wasn't covered.

Ok, started working on get my money back on Monday. Just got the call saying the check was sent out. I don't know how long it would take if I would have sent the paper work in but doing it on line was 3 days.

Learned something from the tech who worked on my clockspring today.
The only problem with mine was that the horn didn't work and occasionally I would have the ESP light come on.
The service writer had the tech work on it. While talking to the tech, he stated, "the warranty only covers if the airbag light comes on. So make sure and mention it."
Just an FYI that may or may not be true.
My horn works now though.

Ok so my cruise control died and now my airbag light is on. Not sure if the horn still works, I'll test it in a bit. So is it the clock spring? Its an 07 2dr x with 46000 miles and I'm the 2nd owner.
