Default Cruise Control Will Not Hold Speed

Just got back from a road trip to CO in my wife's 09 Wrangler Unlimited (four door), and the dang cruise control was all over the place.

Is there anything that can be done--chip or something?

I have had something similar happen to me. The cruise was working fine, then all of a sudden the jeep accelerated real hard. Had to hit the breaks on 3 different occasions on that road trip. I have not had that problem again. Not sure if re-starting the jeep fixed the problem.
Take it to the dealer if you have the same problem again.

Mine does that as a manual, I think my 3.21 gears are too low for my tires though, at least I hope that's what it is.

This is a stock Wrangler and the cruise loses about five MPH on even small hills. It really rubs me the wrong way.

Just came back from a road trip and did not experience any of these issues, but I did find it interesting going down some pretty big hills it would downshift (auto) to maintain the set speed. Seems to go against the whole ECO and coast thing with the cruise off. Maybe you need a flash.

The cruise will let the Jeep slow down like 5mph until it down shifts and makes it accelerate to the speed it was set at. Try turning over drive off and see if the problem remains. I know that shouldn't have to be the solution, but i guess it's just how it is..

I had the same problem going up hills on a highway. I have a manual and found I would have to downshift 6th to 5th and turn off the cruise control as semi trucks passed me by!

I guess that's my point, it should not slow down 5 MPH before downshifting to keep the speed as set.

banx, what do you mean by "flash"?

A Flash Paq programmer. Allowes you to program varouse thngs on your jeep. Such as cruise control, speedometer if you get larger tires, etc....
