Stock JK TechBulletin board forum regarding issues with OE (original equipment) components of the Jeep JK Wrangler (Rubicon, Sahara, Unlimited and X) such as factory suspension parts, engine, transmission, body parts, interior fixtures and the on-board computer.
i have a 2010 jeep jk 2 door 6 spd. the problem im having is the shifter hits my cup thats in the front cup holder on the center console. has anyone had an issue with this and what did you do to fix it?
ideas i had to fix it: cut the shifter arm shorter, bend the shifter arm to clear it, swap the entire console with a newer model
UPDATE: so im updating this to show the results.
1. i tried heating it up first to bend it but that failed. you can see the discoloration where i tried. t might've worked but i didnt have something to hold it still
2. took it to a friends house and he had a big vise and used a piece of pipe to bend it. VIOLA! worked like a champ. i bent it enough to clear the cup but not too much to where my hand hits the dash when i shift. i actually bent it a little bit in the wrong direction which put it closer to me just a bit but it fits the way i shift better that way. took about 30 minutes between removing it, getting it bent, and reinstalled.

Reason: update
Same thing happens in my '17, so replacing the center console with the newer one won't help. My solutions are 1) use a smaller cup 2) don't use the first cup holder or 3) if I have a passenger and we both have cups I have my passenger use the second front cup holder and I use the rear cup holder for the back seat passengers...but I'm 6'7" and have the seat all the way back and have long arms so that may not be an option for everyone
