Stock JK TechBulletin board forum regarding issues with OE (original equipment) components of the Jeep JK Wrangler (Rubicon, Sahara, Unlimited and X) such as factory suspension parts, engine, transmission, body parts, interior fixtures and the on-board computer.
Hello, I'm regearing my 2007 JKU and after pulling off the rear differential cover I discovered the bearing caps are on the wrong side, and upside-down. When I bought the jeep in 2010 it had only 9900 miles on it and it was a dealership fleet vehicle. It looked brand new inside and out. The dealer never mentioned any repairs and the gear ratio matches what the build sheet indicates. It seems unlikely any work was done on it before I bought it.
Is it possible the caps were installed wrong in the factory? When I reassemble the differential after changing the gears should I put the caps on the same way they are now or should I put them on as the marks show?
I would think that which ever way they were installed, i dont know if there is any difference between the sides or up/down. So probably whatever way they got taken off, whenever humans are involved it is very possible!
