Default Dangling Ground Strap

So I changed the plugs in my 08 JKU this week. If you haven't done this yet let me tell you that #5 is a total B to get out. Hoses in the way, tight space around battery box, limited view of plug, etc. But I got it out. As I was trying to put new one in it occurred to me that I could probably reach it easily through the fender well. At this point I noticed a ground strap dangling from the firewall. When I came back topside I traced the loose wire to a bolt on the passenger side of the firewall. There was another strap on the same bolt grounding the hood. My question is where is the other wire supposed to be connected?? I couldn't find anything in my brief search under the Jeep. Does it actually terminate somewhere? My guess would be yes. Any info will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Brad

possibly to the engine itself. i have had a few vehicles with grounds going from the body / frame to the block and transmission.

It probably broke off from the bottom side of the engine. I have a picture of it somewhere from my 2011. From underneath see if you see the other end. I'll look for a picture

Hope this helps.
This is from a 2DR 2011. but should help. the other end is behind the battery against the firewall.

you can always add one.. the one in front is one I added so my HAM radio would work better. adding better ground straps cleans up RFI while using HAM radios and sometimes is needed with CB's.

That's right under #5. That has to be it. I must have broken it while removing the plug. Is there a bolt or something there to connect the strap? Or do I just need to tap into something?

Great pics, great info. Thanks!

If I remember right under that heat shield (or what ever) there was a stud it attached to
I attached the added one to a stud close by. It doesn't have to be in the exact spot.

another pic of the one I added.

It runs down to the block, if you pry up your black plastic inner wheel tub you should see the ring terminal on the block where the wire pulled out. Remove that bolt and get the ring terminal, open it up with a screwdriver or something and re-insert the braided ground strap, crimp it shut and if you can, solder it as well. Then re-install it. I pulled mine apart while installing a body lift, I did't realize it for a few months and it wasn't creating issues. But I did fix and solder it.

If my memory serves me correctly, the block mounted ring terminal is about half way forward on the block, and above the starter, hard to see. But prying up that wheel tub will get you there.

I'll just remove the fender liner tonight and make quick work of this fix. Thanks for the support.
