Question dealer question

I have an '08 x with the lifetime warranty my original dealer put parts in my jeep under warranty. I had enough of them after the greasy hand prints on my soft top inside after they worked on it , shifter boot put back on wrong after the first and second clutch job and not fixing the leak on my soft top which i did myself.

The question i have is i found a dealer closer to home who i prefer to go to i talked to a service rep there today told him my clutch is squealing again, and my heat seam tape on the rear of the top came off and i can see daylight threw the stitch holes. He proceeds to tell me that since another dealer put parts in it they can't fix it under warranty because Chrysler will not pay for it because the original dealer put parts in already for this. I was like huh? warranty is warranty what difference does it make what dealer i go to, what if i moved from Pa to Montana? do i have to go back to PA to warranty work?

The main question i am posing is all of you that have ditched your original dealer have you been told this or is this guy full of B/S? BTW i am under the 12,000 miles for wearable warranty as well, only have 7500 miles.

Absolutely BS. Chrysler spells out in their warranty, that any certified dealer's service department WILL service any warrantied vehicle.

Pretty much what i thought too , but he says once another dealer put's a part let's say a clutch in that the other dealer can't tear it apart and replace it again because they "might have done something wrong". I said what's the difference they put Chrysler parts in it they are a Chrysler dealer what's the big deal? it isn't my fault if they messed it up that's Chrysler's problem. I will have to call there and speak with the manager i guess it sounded like a load of crap to me when he told me.

Correct. Chyrysler does not want to pay twice for the same job. If the first dealer did it wrong and has to correct it they will not get paid again.

If the second dealer rerepairs a warranty issue and it proves to be because of the first dealers poor work the second dealer would be paid and the first dealers warranty account would be deducted the amount of the first repair. This prevents the owner from being batted back and forth between multiple dealers.... of course in these times who knows. The dealer is totally at the mercy of the manufacturer when it comes to payment, this also pressures service departments to do good work.

Go over his head. They’ll do it, and they’ll thank you for the work! Whether they mean it or not!

Well i got a call from Chrysler regarding my question as far as the second dealer not wanting to repair the warranty claim. The answer was since dealerships are all independently owned they can not be forced to repair something done by a previous dealer , the Chrysler people say they are not satisfied with this and are digging deeper to find out why because this should not be happening . I also got a call from the regional manager in my area from Chrysler and he gave me a reference # and talked to my original selling dealer where the work was done. They assured me that after seeing my work order history from that dealer about the clutch and leaks that this would all be taken care of immediately . I am to call him the day i drop it off at the dealer then they send some sort of electronic fax to Chrysler and the dealer and this Chrysler rep is to look at my jeep himself. I guess i will see what happens looking threw the TSB's i see there is a new one for the clutch used to be 06-004-07 which i have had twice now so hopefully this 06-001-08 fixes it time will tell I'll post up when i drop it off. Hopefully they will fix my header leak, door leaks, steering shaft clunk, sail panel leak if they don't fix the leaks so be it i have fixed them myself anyways but i don't think i should have to ride around with foam rubber weatherstrip stuck to my door frame on a brand new vehicle but i love my jeep and wouldn't trade it for the world. I am gonna try this one last time to get it fixed under warranty if they don't I'll just wait till the clutch wears out and put a center force in it and fix my leaks myself.
