Death Wobble 2 (the return)
i had the death wobble and coulden't figure out what was causing it until i had my wife turning the wheel while i looked and low and behold broken track bar mount (hairline fracture in weld on axle) like rubimon says check it.
ok i do understand checking if everything is tq'd properly tires balenced-alignd proper pressure but how many people did this happen to also the last time i looked I BOUGHT A JEEP NOT A $1000000 EXOITIC SUPER SPORTS CAR this is made to have some abuse to it NOT HITTING A FEW POT HOLES
so, you are completely stock?
it shouldn't matter which way the steering stabilizer is mounted, so long as it is not a bad stabilizer.
have your tires balanced, and for pete's sake, lower the pressure.
check the track bar torque, and mounting bracket, as previously mentioned.
check the toe-in.
make sure your tie-rod isn't bent.
check that bolts on the pitman arm and draglink are all tight.
have someone turn your steering wheel, while you watch to see if anything moves before the tires do - everything should move simultaneously.
check torque on lower control arms.
you could have bad wheel bearings - not as easy to check, but if you rule out the above stuff, this would be my next guess.
how about ball joints? easiest way to check this is to jack one wheel off the ground, and grab the top of the tire and push in and out the check for any top/bottom play.

Death Wobble is NOT JUST A JEEP PROBLEM...it happens and has always happened with any and all live axle front suspended 4x4 vehicles. I have owned a few....and been on a few other boards (non-Jeep) and DW is always an issue for some....
I can tell you in the last few years I have owned a '93 YJ, '99 TJ, '02 WJ, '06 Dodge Ram 2500 CTD 4x4 and finally my '07 JK...all live axle ALL lifted and maintained CORRECTLY and I have never once experienced DW (knock on wood)

Hmmm.
Is everyone giving the correct info, and all the mods?
Ok. The first poster appears to be stoclk except why the high tire pressure?? are they stock??
The death wobble can occur on any live axle vehicle as a previous post stated. It ususally happens when something is amis with the suspension geometry or a loose part.
So for starters, if you say your Jeep as stock as I think it is, and you can duplicate the problem, take it back to the dealer and show them. Now, you're armed with a list of items to check. Stabilizer, weld tears, track bar torques, ball joints and so on.
If they go through the vehicle with a fine toothed comb than I do understand you frustration and concern. Sometimes factory variance tolerances have cumulative consequences.
Now if your Jeep is modded with anything, even wider tires, don't just jump the gun and kill the manufacturer because the guy who put your wheels on used an impact gun and actually sheered some of the studds off.
My point is, give as much info on your mods (or stock) and the type of driving you do or did lately. It's very easy to forget how on our last wheeling trip I had a rock and it might have hit the stabilizer bar or track bar.

hey there, i have had the DW for a long time on my jk. its a 4 door x and all stock. the dealership has done the stabilizer recall, tightened everything and gone through it with no solutions, now they say they are waiting for a superlift stabilizer and there gonna install that. they told me that the tires could be the cause and that they wouldnt warrenty that. i dont get it, all i want is for my jeep to be safe,. nothing is working, im at the point where i wanna take them the keys and stop paying for it.
does anyone have any insight into this...nothing is cracked or damaged...but its got a wicked wobble off of bumps..i have taken them for a ride and they agree but cant seem to fix it, dont i have any options????
