Death wobble on a stock JK
My stock steering stabilizer was mounted the same as in the pic.
Edit: Interesting. The FSM shows it mounted with the rod facing the engine as you mentioned, but mine came the other way from the factory, and in poking around, i find about as many pictures one way as the other. Curious how much it matters, wouldnt it have to react the same, going in both directions (steering left vs. right)?

It changes the leverage depending upon the side that's moving when the sides are not symmetrical...and they are not symmetrical. I do not know if there's enough of a difference to matter here or not, as I never measured the angular velocities involved, etc for a JK (Mine's too new....haven't messed with it yet...)

Again...I hope its the pic...but I can't see the ball joint I'm expecting to under the top of the "C" .
Anyone have a decent 'puter screen/better view/resolution?
(I'm looking at the stupid thing on my Blackberry screen)
Get your tires balanced.....That is most likely the problem.... I have had the same problem on a WJ and my buddy on his Dodge truck. After LOTS of money and time, I got the tires balanced and no more death wobble.... Rebalance at every oil change just to keep it from coming back...

I ordered a tf ss and when our lift gets in were getting new tires anyways. So it'll all be balanced and hopefully good to go in the next couple weeks.
Thanks guys!
Thanks guys!
The new jeeps have the Steering stabilizer in the opposite direction. The 07's are facing either way depending on who was building it that day. Mine was shot after 33000 miles of almost all road travel. It wasn't a little bad either, it was completely ruined. I would have them flip it just so it is farther away from the grime being kicked out by the tire.
It is, in fact, the steering stabilizer, mine has been replaced twice - the second time was a "heavy duty" stabilizer. Chrysler has said there was a problem with the original stabilizer on some 2007 Wranglers. My 2007 Sahara Unlimited had everything checked, balanced, torqued, etc. I've had it back for about a month, no problems as of yet.

I've had everything checked, balanced, torqued and aligned yet I had 8 DWs on the way home from tehachapi today. All on the freeway. I'm so sick of it already.

Steering stabilizers will NOT fix death wobble. All they do is "dampen" vibration. if you have a wobble, you have a wobble. period. A new stabilizer will mask more than a worn in one, but it is NOT fixing the problem, ony covering it up.
I had a wobble in mine, after the FOURTH trip to the tire shop for balancing, they finally got it.
I am not saying your stabilizer wasnt bad, or in need of replacement, just that simply swapping it out, will not fix the wobble, it is still there, it is just covered up. temporarily.
