Exclamation Destroyed stock rear locker

Wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I recently went over a decent local trail and engaged the front and rear lockers a few times on my JK Rubicon. When I went back into 2WD, the rear locker light continued to flash even when I tried to go back into 4LO re-engage and disengage the locker. Come to find out, once I got back into town, I realized the locker was actually still engaged (the rear tires were grabbing/sqawking around corners). When I got home I messed with 4LO and the lockers several more times...to no avail. Now the front locker wouldn't engage at all.

Just got word from the dealer after almost 8 hours of diagnostics that the rear locker had a "complete internal failure." The service guy said he had no other details from the tech, but would have to get the part from MN and would have my ride till Friday. He said if it wasn't under warranty it would have cost $650 just for parts. He said he would let me know when they knew exactly what happened.

He said he hasn't ever heard of this before and neither have I...in a JK rubicon or TJ rubicon.

I guess more than anything, just a heads up incase this is a problem the JK is going to have.

Silver Rubicon unlimited purchased in November... stock (ready to buy lift and glad I don't have it on yet for warranty issue!)

Do you have any modifications to the suspension or drivelines? If you don't (well actually even if you do) you better insist that it is covered under warranty. Also, in your description you said front locker wont engage but title says rear locker. Just curious what one is it?
And sorry about your jeep. I hate when factory stuff craps out.

Really? The TJ Rubicon locker was junk and have known people to break there's in no time at all. As for me, I've already blown my JK rear locker as well as at least half a dozen other people on this forum. Fortunately, I got mine covered under warranty

I wonder if Chrysler will continue the lifetime powertrain warranty . . .
I'm sure the warranty had to do with chrysler as a whole and the people upstairs probably didn't know much about the wranglers.

As of yet, I have no mods. I'm just now shopping for a lift etc. Really glad this happened prior to my mods tho! It is covered under warranty. The rear locker was the one that wouldn't disengage and the dealer says it's destroyed. The front locker light only blinked but wouldn't engage. The dealer says that mysteriously dissappeared and said "it will only engage in 4LO" NO %$@!
Anyway, we'll see when I get it back tomorrow. Thanks....

On that note...did you have all of your mods completed yet when you blew your locker? I've heard different things about lift etc. voiding the warranty. Some say it won't as long as it's not above a 4" lift and you have it professionally installed. Just wondering what your experience has been. Thanks

My front one took a poop on me at about 2000 miles and I just put in a Detroit and I love it it makes no noise and works fine.. When the rear goes I will do the same thing or maybe got to a ox not sure yet. i have 6210 miles on it now and 2 to 3 times a month I am out playing on the trials with it.

The warranty issue was a big deal for me. Prior to purchasing my Jeep I actually read both the 3/3600 and the lifetime warranty. After reading these posts I read it again.

There are two issues with this warranty; 1) Voiding the warranty, and 2) Parts not covered under warranty.

I could only find 2 listed items that will void your warranty and both of those are relating to the odometer.

However, there are many circumstances that could change a normally covered part to not be covered such as Racing, Abuse, Impact or collission damage, damage caused by performance or racing parts, etc..

I find it difficult to believe that any off-roading as long as it is not competative (i.e., not racing) could be considered "abuse" when you purchase a vehicle that is called a "rubicon" and comes from the factory with "electronc sway bar disconnect" and "electronic front and rear lockers".

These vehicles were designed to do what we do to them and when we do it we expect them to work. If they do not work then it should be fixed.

However, I don't think anyone would expect Jeep to warranty driver error impact damage such as splitting a case over a rock.

Yes, I did but I had been having problems with my rear locker since day one and mostly in regards to it not disengaging. I had taken my Jeep into the dealership once to have it looked but it was after I had my gears installed. Need I say, they blamed the shop that did my gears and said they didn't do it right. Of course, this was complete BS as I was there to watch the entire install and knew for a fact that it was done right. Anyway, after it blew, I took my Jeep into a different dealership (Orange Coast Jeep) and they were very good about replacing it under warranty even though I had 35's and new gears. I have not had any problems since.

Well.... got the jeep back today...after almost a week. When the dealership received the new locker/carrier and started the install, they broke the actuator, so I then had to wait for it to come in. Everything was covered under warranty (as it should be). Also, the dealership told me if I'd had it lifted, it still would have been covered. They told me they know customers are going to lift jeeps and use them. The only time they said a warranty would be voided in their opinion would be if I moded the engine with headers etc. Guess I know what my next purchase is going to be.... 4" superlift and Micky thompson MTZ's, and where I will continue taking my JK...
