Yeah that should work too. The stock JK breather lines have a white piece of plastic with a cap that "floats" to keep the contaminants out and still allow the diff to breath when ti gets hot.

if you make the breather too long, wont that severly limit the breathability? Like trying to suck liquid through a regular straw vs. a 5 foot straw?

Not a problem. Its not an air intake exactly. It just allows the air pressure to equalize (tiny amount of air).

how deep would a bog hole need to be before you start worrying about water in the transmission, i've read in a few places now about the danger of changing gear when in deep water. the bog hole i got stuck in (which was mainly water with a soft clay bottom) came to about 3 inches from the top of the tyres, i picked up a bit of water in the front diff which i am going to remedy with a full oil change, should i also be checking the transmission oil or would the water have to be a fair bit higher for that to be a concern?

What about a manual transmission?

Is there a breather tube on the clutch or something??

I am definitely doing this before my next trip to the pine barrens. I will probably just T the lines and run them into the engine compartment. I've been worried about this after hitting some big holes a few weeks ago.

Has anyone thought of merging them into one line (the diffs and the tranny breathers) and run that one line into the cab?
