Default Disabling ESP - Easy!

Alright, so I know that this has been run into the ground, but I figured that I would offer up better explained directions.
Reason being, it took me a couple times to get mine disabled, but since then, I have talked to several friends on base and none of them were able to get it to work.

Here's exactly what i told them to do, it worked everytime(2 08's and 1 '09):

1. turn jeep on
2. set to 4hi
3. set parking brake
4. make sure steering wheel is centered
5. turn wheel to the right, 180 degrees, JEEP logo should be upside down at this point - hold ESP off button for 7 seconds, you may hear a chime at 5 seconds(and ESP OFF may show up on the speedo), but keep holding for 7 seconds!!!!
6. Turn wheel back to center then left 180 degrees, JEEP logo should be upside down at this point - hold ESP off button for 7 seconds, again, hold for 7 seconds!!!
7. turn back to center, and hold ESP for 7 seconds.
8. Turn Jeep off

The notable differences that my friends were getting confused on:
1. One of them was only turning 90 degrees on the wheel
2. All of them were seeing the 'ESP OFF' come up on the speedo and letting go of the button, not holding for the whole 7 seconds.

Hope this helps the people that have not been able to get this to work.

Good to know....guess I'll have to start a log with all the steps to do everything. I hate looking at the manual.

What is the point of doing this? I've read about it but not really any explanation of why.

The JK EPS is very sensitive.
So much that it actually causes driveability problems on almost any surface other than straight pavement.
That has been my experience. I happen to cruise in the dunes a lot too though, it makes a world of difference having power as opposed to the engine falling on its face because the EPS thinks I am about to die and decides it knows best.
To each his own though, if you don't notice it, then I say keep it on.

What's all this turn the wheel this way, turn the wheel that way, left foot in , left foot out, shake it all about hokey pokey bs. My 07 manual says push and hold the esp button in for 7 to 10 seconds there will be a chime and the speedometer display will say espoff. This is exactly what happens.

When I shut off the engine and then restart, the esp is on again. as the manuals says it will be.

I always do this in park in 4 hi when I go off road.

Is there something goofy with the 08's and 09's?

I heard they include this information in the manual for all 08 and later models. It was a yellow piece of paper if I remember correctly. For the 07 you have to get the ECU updated to recognize this "programming". Costs about $80 to do this.
