Does anyone else think the lo fuel display is flawed?

I've been driving this thing since the end of July and up till recently, always gased up shortly after the ding and idiot lite, which is usually right at the 240 mile mark. I'd fill it with 14 1/2 gallons So I now know it's an 18 gallon tank so yesterday I drove past the 240 mile mark and the ding just to see how close to the red that needle would get. I lost my nerve near 260 miles and the needle was still above the red line. I'm thinking I can go at least 30 to 40 miles past that ding.

It's like having a thermometer that hits 98.6 then stops telling you the temperature, and instead starts telling you that you have a fever. You probably already knew that, or you wouldn't be taking your temperature.

Likewise, you probably know you're running low on gas when you check the DTE, and it would be logical for the software to display the calculation rather than LO, which is already a known.

For some people, that can make the difference between gassing up in a sketch neighborhood, or not.
Excellent post! Especially the thermometer issue, particulary since I'm working from home with a sick child today!

I assume I'll be in the habbit of resetting one of my trip odometers to 0 when my DTE is just about at 0, then I know I'll have 30 miles to go BEFORE I HAVE 2 GALLONS LEFT since the DTE is not accurate anyway! But at least I'll know.

See, one other tihng is that sometimes i'm driving to, say a client, and I don't have time for gas. So I go, I know I've got x miles left, then when I get back in the car, I don't want to have to remember exactly where I left off to know true DTE.

it's all good. just annoying. Much like the OD switch on my auto tranny and how it's located somewhere A MILE away from my shifter!

My Ford F250 ran to 0 miles and I ran it there once, trusting every minute that it was correct. and boy was it. it ran out as I pulled into Buccee's, it DRT'ed at the pump...

But after that incident it would always chug at the 48 mile to E... not sure why but hated it ever since so I traded it for my rubicon and now I have to deal with the dang LO FUEL

I don't have a DTE computer display, just an idiot light that dings when it gets low. It can go off with anywhere between 1/4 to 1/8 tank left. If I take a sharp turn any time I'm near 1/4 tank I'm stuck with the light until I refill, even if I turn it on and off in between. I usually get well over 40 miles after the light, no matter when it goes off...

every vehicle I've ever had that ha a computer with dte has said lo fuel from aroun 30 miles or so on, so it's not a jeep thing, it's an auto thing, nothing to get worked up about, we should all know to fuel up once the light comes on, so we don;t get stuck somewhere.

Default Its not a JEEP thing

My 2002 Grand Cherokee has displayed single digits on the DTE display. It only has a tiny little light on the dash to say Low Fuel. Guess they figured drivers have gotten "stupider".

I sort of freaked when the Low Fuel came on in my JK. Thought my gas gage was broken. It said 1/4 tank!

its just a friendly reminder... you guys are over analyzing it way more than necessary... do you wait until you have zero food in your stomach before your body starts telling you that you are hungry?

I agree - this is non-issue. Just watch the needle, at least it only dings once and not constantly. If it did that, then maybe this would be a different conversation.
