Default Does switching to Synthetic cause you to burn oil...?

I just did my first oil change at 1,500 miles. The dealer put the Mobil dyno oil that they use stock in it. I plan on doing about two more oil changes with dyno oil and then switching to Synthetic at about 10,000 miles or so. It seems that there is a (sometimes) common denominator with oil consumption...and it's people who have switched to Fully Synthetic. I'd like to hear from people that have actually experienced this. And if you're running straight dyno oil and haven't had any oil consumption, i'd like to hear from you too!

I'd also like to add that i'm just trying to avoid the "burns 1 qt every 1,000 miles" at all costs. I've taken it very easy on the motor for nearly 2,000 miles now.

No. Synthetic will not cause you to burn oil.

synthetic is more likely to leak, and if there is a leak it will leak faster than "dino juice" but won't cause oil consumption providing there is nothing wrong. if you had a slow un-noticable leak before, it may be more pronounced now.

I switched to synthetic at the first oil change. 16,000 miles later there's no oil burning or leaking.

I did my first change with dino and every one since then with Mobil 1. The level of my original and 1st oil shange stayed rock steady. When I switched to Mobil 1, I will burn about 1 qt in 5000 miles.

I have not switched back to dino to see if oil consumption will stop.

It could be a coincidence, but My 2000 Durango that I swithced to Mobil 1 (Listed by name because it is arguabley not full synthetic) after 8 years of dino started using oil at the first Mobil 1 change. I figured it was due to the beter detergents in it.

I don't believe that synthetic oil is some super potion, but I do believe that it has fewer impurities and thus will break down slower. I still maintain the same oil change interval etc, but I have 2 vehicles that started using oil imediatly after changing to Mobil 1.

Well I am one of the ones who switched to synthetic at about 45k and now I go thru approx 2-3 quarts between oil changes while using synthetic. I have sense switched back to regular oil and it is better but oil still mysteriously disappears.( about 1-2 quarts) I have no leaks and do not seem to be burning any .I am sure this is what is happening after talking to my dealer (they are one of the decent ones and have treated me very well over the years) The service manager said that it is the rings, and the one common denominator is it happens when people switch over to synthetic with higher mileage.
Right wrong or indifferent my Jeep did not leak a drop, 6 quarts in 6 quarts out (well just less than 6 quarts) and after I switched I had problems. So for me I had a bad experience or and awful coincidence. Others have had good Luck but I can say that I will not put synthetic in anything I own in the future.
