Door hinge worries

Door hinge worries
My 08 has the hinge corrosion going on, like most. My question, can I just tape off around (want to avoid misalignment) the hinge and sand down, clean and repaint or is that corrosion working its way into my sheet metal of the door too?

You will have to remove the hinge and assess the situation. When I drove off the lot new, I removed all the hinges and everything else I could get at, an applied a rust protector. 13 winters later with lots of salt, good so far.

I wish I knew this back when mine was newer. I could just see broken bolts, ect. I will probably roll the dice and keep a close eye on it. Unless research shows it will rust away if not treated
