Driveshaft Exploded and My EVAP Canister Caught on Fire
Was driving my 2007 JK on the highway when out of nowhere my drive shaft exploded. As I was pulling over to the side of the road, smoke was boiling out from under my Jeep. The fire only lasted about 5 minutes (and no my fire exstinguishers were at home). I crawled under the Jeep to find the drive shaft literally melted on the end and my EVAP Canister had exploded and was still smoldering. I only have 17,700 miles on my Jeep so I called Chrysler. They sent out a Critical Claims Investigator within a few days who took pictures and made a report. He stated he had never seen anything like this before and was lucky the Jeep didnt burn to the ground. He also said it was definitely a failure on the drive shaft. So far I am up to $1,100.00. Anyone else ever see or hear of this happening?

That the bottom side your looking at. The top section is were the plastic burned, plus most of the fire was from the charcoal inside the canister. I took the picture of the bottom because thats where the driveshaft hit it. Thanks though.

Well I heard back from Chrysler/Jeep. Even though the representative said it was definitely a failure, Chrysler/Jeep said it wasn't. They basically said you can drive your vehicle down the highway and the drive shaft will fail puncturing your EVAP Canister causing a fire and its not a failure on their part. So I'm out of a job and have no vehicle. Thanks Chrysler/Jeep!!! I will NEVER purchase from you again!!!

Wow, that's horrible. Sorry to hear they aren't fixing it (yet).. If I were you I'd keep fighting it. If the rep. said it was a failure then use that to your advantage when talking to Chrysler. Hope you get this fixed.
