Some people who have lowered their windshield have posted that was their experience.

that's been reported in a few threads. but then again, the same has been reported about lowering the soft top!

The windshield is just a legacy, not all that useful since the advent of permanent roll bars.

Originally it was a specification for shipment by rail.

Well crap Ron, my JK is still quite new, and I have leaks from day one. I don't need to invite trouble any more than I already do!

Just make sure to measure it before you drop it.

Beer goggles help protect your eyes, and promote driving with the windshield down.

I drive with the windshield down sometimes in my '48 Willys going through the woods, but even though it doesn't go fast, spider webs are aggrivating

All states can be different, in Texas, you do not have to have a windshield, but if you do have one you have to have windshield wipers.
when I did the state inspections, if a dune buggy or any vehicle did not have a windshield, the owner had to have a place to safely carry the sticker in the vehicle even if it was just their pocket

JK's have a shit pile of bolts to undo to get the screen down. I believe it is in excess of 32. JL I think has 8. My 49 CJ2A took about 20 seconds to get the screen down.

It is quite a few bolts and not really worth doing because it doesn't sit flat and looks goofy as all get out. I've dropped mine twice- once for driving and once for extensive cleaning. I don't have any leaks originating from dropping the windshield.
