My problem is that even if I get those parts clean, so much dust can accumulate in the vent tubes that it just keeps blasting out everytime the fan runs for a while.

Take a shop vac and put it on suck and when you vets are out the hose fits perfect into the hole and you can suck out excess dust and debris

I use the Toad method and also turn the heater knob all the way on too, to get rid of
even more dust.
Also, if you pull out the glovebox, there is the plastic mesh for
the blower motor. Wondering if getting an air filter to fit on
top would filter the air so there would be not dust????
My Xterra had a filter like this.

Here's a super easy way to clean your dash vents on your JK

It sounds silly, but it really works well.
Grasp the round trim bezel firmly and rotate clockwise about 1/4 turn then pull out the entire vent assembly from the dash. (do this for all six vents in your dash)
Place all the vents in your home dishwasher with the rest of your dirty dishes.
Run the dishwasher.
Remove your (now immaculate) vents from the dishwasher.
Put the clean vents in your JK. (there are two different length vents - The shallower ones go outboard and the deeper vents go in the center console)
To re-install, place the vents in the holes and rotate till they will sit fluch with the dash again.
Now rotate them counterclockwise about 1/4 turn till they are locked back in position.
Hope this saves you some time on your next clean up.

Good info, thanks.

I believe that is the air pickup for 'recirculate', it normally picks up front the windshield cowling which would require a filter over that. I just blow them out on the highway
