Default Engine Differences

The engine on my 2012 JK blew.
‘I’m currently looking for one.
What is the difference between the engines.
‘I am told that I could only install 2012 to 2013.
the others are the same 2014 to 2018.
I have a Pentastar 3.6L VVT.
I don’t see any differences visually.
‘thanks in advance.

the only thing I can think of is the 2012 and 2013 have different oil cooler housings than the 2014 on up which should not pose a problem as long as you remember to get the correct oil filter.

Just curious, what do you mean by your engine blew? Fiat extended the warranty for the 2012's up to 150,000 miles for the left side head issue.

Engine was making crazy rattle on the right side head (left if facing the engine bay).
When i got under the valve cover thinking it was rockers.
Noticed the timing chain on the cams was lose and the chain guides were gone.
Took of the front cover to get deeper and noticed a tensioner just gave up.
found all type of pieces of the chain guides in the oil pan and all over the cover. Pieces were just dropping when taking the cover off.
Bent valves and heat marks on the cams.
If the top is that bad then i guess the bottom end was compromised as well.
Bought it with 200k and only put 5k on it and this happens.
Its a RHD for work.

You could try calling FCA Customer Care, worst thing they can do is say no.

They reimbursed my old 2013 JKUR for the cost of a replacement radiator just out of warranty.

Use a non-dealer shop if possible that has good experience with Jeeps. I have one here in Arkansas that helps a lot of Jeepers in the NE corner of Arkansas. I would think you would have a shop that does good jeep work so ask any of the truck accessory stores in your area who is good with Jeeps.

Have the shop buy you a salvage engine with a warranty which will cost you a few hundred bucks but it was worth it for me. My first engine also had warped heads and the insurance paid for everything to be removed and replaced with a different engine. Not one charge to me. These engines have major problems with the heads so my shop told me that the rebuilds are expensive and some of them have mildly warped heads. I asked a rebuild supplier about a warranty extension and they said not with the history of these heads. My shop advised me correctly to get a salvage with lower miles to see if that works first. Eventually it worked but the warranty was a life saver.

HI, for grins I contacted the largest MOPAR Wholesaling Dealership in the USA.. Factory REMAN LONG BLOCK Engine List Price is 4650. (no tin or gaskets) 600 core plus shipping.. Comes with a 3yr/100,000 mile warranty - parts & labor.
Thought you should know before you decide which way to go on repairing.
