Engine Failure Check in
Maybe you missed the part that for 40000 miles it used no oil and suddenly it starts burning 1 qt per 1000 miles. That is not normal for any engine. It is an 08 built 12/07
I had my 09 bottom end replaced under warinity. They told me 4,5,6 connectining rods were extremely worn, and the 6 (i think) main was spun. They could no find a reason for it, bu I think it was the cold start up knock, or synthetic oil ( it seems more people are having problems wih synthetic oils). I had 40000 kms on it and 2 years of driving.
We left for Mexico in March with 160K on it, returned with about 167K and a lot of that done off pavement, and some even off road. At least 200 miles of it was done hauling ass down the beach, fully loaded with camping gear.
Stuff thats broke now:
EGR causing CEL to come on.
Teraflex heim joint on my rear passenger long arm has play
Rear fox 2.0 shocks need overhaul, or replacement and then overhaul the 2.0's and use them on my XJ build.
Several small oil leaks in engine, maybe from intake manifold or heads
Small oil leak in manual transmission, possibly from B&M shifter and not actual trans.
Reverse light not working, as well as reverse camera.
Rear locker not engauging
Rear wheel bearing making noise
Parking brake shoes and cable worn beyond adjustment (worn out playing hoonigan at home, not while overlanding)
Not bad for a 15 year old Jeep. by far the most abusive thing I do to it while traveling is blasting down interstates at 70. My 5:13 gear does puts me at 3K RPM at about 72. The engine is okay at that RPM, but the rest of the Jeep does not like extended runs at that speed. I can do 45 or 50 on dirt roads all day, every day, and for weeks at a time and nothing breaks.
My 3.8, and 6 speed manual is getting old, I'm not kidding myself, it wont last forever. I'll keep caring for it, but I also want to have a plan for replacement, either 5.7 Hemi with the 8 speed, or just overhaul what I have. Leaning towards overhaul.
