Default Engine Failure Check in

Just curious how many have experienced engine failure related to inadequate/poor oiling resulting in spun bearings.
Please limit responses to those that have eperienced total engine failure with some details pertaining to.

Not sure if my 2dr 2007 was due to lack of oil but all symptoms so far are pointing to yes. my post. I'm told by the dealer that I need a whole new engine at about 6 grand

My engine was replaced at 30000 miles. The bearing wasn't spun yet, but it was on it's way out. I happened to pick up on a potential problem early and took it in. It was a mid 2008 engine.

Did they provide you any details as to what caused the problem?

No, other then the bearing was shot. I'v never run my oil low, but I'm a second owner. It's possible that it was eating so much oil initially that it ran dry once or twice and caused the damage. In several other threads, there is mention of the mexican engine plant assembling pistons with all of the piston rings alligned, which pretty much ensures oil consumption, and inproper oiling of the cylinder wall and piston itself. Since my short block itself was also damaged, I assume this was the root problem: shoddy manufacturing at the outsourced location.

From what I'v found in my searching, that perticular mexican plant was shut down mid 2008. My friend at the dealership who replaced my engine mentioned something about other JK's coming in, all mid 2008 or earlier and had the exact same damage in the same mileage neighborhood of 30-50k miles.

From my searching, I believe that 2007 to mid 2008 JK's with mexican produced engines are the ones in danger. There have been no late 2008 or later JK's having this problem.

2011 JK at 7200 miles and I lost the engine. Still in the shop. At first I thought the station attendant put diesel in it, Not the case. All I know right now is the #1 cylinder is dead and the spark plug is wet. Could be a valve...I don't know. Scheduled maintenance was done a little early due to taking the vehicle to Italy, but that shouldn't have caused any problems. I'll let you know what happens next.

Regards, John

I am in the process of fighting this now. 2008 JK Rubicon Unlimited. No problems till it hit 40k. Suddenly I am burning about 1 quart per 1000 miles. The dealership is trying to tell me this is normal for this engine.
