Engine Oil Dipstick Accuracy
See what I mean? Dronacs is spot on at 6 qts. mine would show that at around 5.5 (if I left it at that) and you're at 5.
I was looking for a replacement drain plug at a Mopar dealer online and noticed the 3.8 oil pan is made up of an upper and lower section. This means it has two gaskets. I'm thinking the variable here is the gasket/sealant thickness that changes the oil level.
A warm/hot engine will drain more than a cool/cold one. Since we're talking about half a quart or so, it would make a difference. Oil temp combined with filter size, rake, level ground; they all add up to some plus or minus on the dipstick. Its just a guide.
One easy test is to try your dipstick in your buddy's JK.
