Default ENOUGH with the freaking HEADLIGHTS!!! Make them STOP!!!

Okay, I know it's been discussed here before, and usually people read it wrong and assume the poster is talking about the HORN HONK or LIGHTS FLASH when locking/unlocking, and then the discussion goes off in a totally different direction about how it's in the manual and just follow the procedure in the manuall etc etc....this is not in the manual, so please read carefully...

What I'm asking about here is the "headlights turn on when unlocking with the remote" feature. I HATE it. It annoys other campers when I'm camping, it annoys my neighbors when I'm at home, it annoys ME every time I unlock my doors with the remote. I know it can be turned off by the dealer using the StarScan tool. There are people on this very forum who say they've had their dealer do exactly that. I took mine to the dealer, and they told me it can't be done. Based on posts here saying it can, I have to disagree with my dealer, but I don't have enough information to convince them to look further.

So my question is this: is there anyone here who works at a dealership and/or has access to a StarScan tool who can tell me the EXACT steps to go through in order to turn this "feature" off? I know it can be done. I need to know EXACTLY how, so I can print off the instructions and give them to the service guy so he can do it for me.

And remember, I'm NOT talking about the "horn honk with lock/unlock" or the "lights flash with lock/unlock"...I'm talking about the "headlights ON with unlock". Seriously. I can't tell you how many threads I've seen asking about this, that quickly degenerate into "follow the procedure in the manual."

wow, you must be really annoyed with that feature.

as for me, i enjoy the feature - at 530-6am when i get to my car outside, i like the lights on when i push unlock. i think its a nice safety feature.

as far as camping goes, yes i could see how this would annoy someone who would want the lights off. sorry - i dunno - maybe pull the fuse?

I talked to my Jeep tech and he said that it can be done from the manual or star scan. I have yet to rear the book totally that came with my Jeep.

I hated that "feature" too... The dealer can turn it off for you. I had it done while in for other service. No charge to do it. Sucks that it can't be changed without a starscan tool.

That's a good question.

The only time it bothers me, is when I'm at the gym. I unlock my Jeep and the lights shine right in the big windows. I try to get in and turn it on ASAP. In the summer it won't be a problem, as I'll park farther away. I hate the cold, so in the winter, I park as close as I can.

Maybe I should just start backing in... LOL.

Okay, sorry... I know that wasn't any help. But, I do understand how it can be annoying.

Oh, and forgive my noob question... what's a starscan tool??

If you're camping, why do you need to set the alarm anyway? Can't you just use the key to lock/unlock the jeep?

I think the idea is he shouldn't have to since it is fixable by the dealer.

I wish I had some steps for you bro but I don't have keyless entry or an alarm. That would bug me too probably... if I noticed.

Welllll...not really the point, but...sure, I could do that. But then there's always gonna be that one time you forget and lock it with the remote out of habit. Then later you unlock it with the key and..."HONK! HONK! HONK! HONK! HONK!" which annoys the other campers even more than the headlights coming on late at night. It's also a problem at home, since I park in such a way that my lights shine right into my neighbor's bedroom window (and I leave at 0500, so I'm sure it must annoy them). Yes I could park facing different directions, and annoy different neighbors each day, but...well, not really the point either.

The point is, I shouldn't have to be bothered. It would be nice if they made this an option I could turn on/off myself, but since they didn't...I really REALLY want to be able to show my dealership how to do it.

Default no help here but...

i don't have anything to offer and understand the dillemma as i wouldn't like it either but maybe try different dealerships until you find one that will do it for you otherwise if it annoys you that much just unlock it using the key until you do find a way to fix it....cheap, easy solution rather than losing sleep about it....another option would be to call chrysler yourself to see if they can offer a solution that could then be relayed to your dealer.... or if someone here that has had it done could let you know what dealer did it for them with a name and number to contact said dealer then you could call that dealer yourself and get the info or put your dealer in contact with the dealer thatr does know how to do it to get the issue resolved....

THe starscan tool is a computer that the dealer has that they can plug into your jeep. You can get one too if you want, they go for a cool 2-4 grand on ebay. They can change settings as needed (like enable DRL's *shutter* for example).
