Default Evo D-Ring Mounts on stock bumper

Could these EVO: Bumper/Armor/Skids, D-Ring Mountsbe used as an alternative to the factory tow hooks on the front bumper????? I hate those tow hooks, these would be such an improvement if they could just be swapped out but that would be too easy/practical. I don't see anybody running them so my initial guess is no

the factory hooks are a little deceiving - they mount to the FRONT of the bumper, not the top.
the factory hooks bolt to the front of the bumper @ the frame extensions and stick UP thru the bumper

thats not to say you couldnt bolt the evo rings to the front of the bumper using the same holes (i dont know if they match up, youd have to check by pulling the bumper skin off).

I'm pretty sure they match up but I don't know how much airspace is between the skin and bumper. Might pucker the plastic a bit.

I've been looking at a similar item by Off Camber to use with a shorty Olympic bumper. Same mounting points.

I'm pretty sure Ronjenx is working on a D ring mount on a stock bumper. Maybe he'll have more insight and suggestions

The D rings use the same holes as the factory. Your issue will be making it look good with the stock plastic bumper. You would have to cut the plastic off the factory bumper.

Nibsirb,

You shouldn't have any problems mounting the D-rings the bolt holes should line up. However you my need to trim or cut the bumper cover to get everything lined up. Be sure to post up some pics when you get them installed. I'd like to see how it turned out. Let me know if you have any questions. I'd be happy to help.

I should've clarified at the beginning....I'll be removing the plastic altogether and doing the stock stubby mod. Was just looking at options besides the factory tow hooks. I haven't seen any stock stubbies with a winch though so this should be interesting. Apparently Pure Jeep also has d rings that will work but I'm a fan of Evo's work

the pure jeep ones look pretty good to me...and theyre the same price.
the pure jeep site says theirs come w/ grade 8 mounting hardware (evo doesnt say if their mounting hardware is rated).

Remove bumper w 8 bolts. Remove tow hooks. Cut crash cans. Reinstall bumper. Bolt on d rings w stainless steel hardware from Lowes. I found stainless d-rings at a flea market in Alabama when wife and I were heading to Florida. I painted bumpers and added VDP bumper ends.
