If you engine oil is normal I suggest you clean all that gunk off, wipe it really clean, then keep an eye on it to see if it starts to come back. At that point I will probably be easier to see what's leaking and from where.

I saw this post two days ago and looked at the picture and thought >>>Yuck!

I just got back from some wheelin offroad and did my normal inspection routine.

Dammit!!! My 2008 JK Rubi looks EXACTLY like that. Some yellow/orange/brown crusty crud in the same spot. And I only have 11k miles on mine (Not my DD.)

Thumbs up

and the winner is....... water pump!

I took it to the dealership (still under warranty) and they blamed/replaced the water pump.

So, I'll have to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't build up again.

Thanks for the help, guys!

Looks like I need to take my 2008 in for a new water pump. Mine looks exactly like yours did, possibly a bit worse. I checked my radiator coolant level and it is still full. I noticed that the radiator coolant is an ugly pinkish color...Weird. I was expecting to see green.

More than likely your water pump....had my 08 JK with 49K miles looking the same way. It was the orange radiator fluid dried up.
