Default Fried computer

if I happened to have my jeep on, and went to tighten the positive terminal with a wrench, and hit the body, and in turn grounding the positive, would that fry my computer?

Can you crank it over? When you turn your ignition on do the dash lights come on?

I don't think ayone can answer that question for sure. The juice should follow the ground wires back to the battery, not hurting anything else. But, computers are delicate things. You neber know what path electricity will follow.

For the benefit of others reading this thread....
Never work on the positive terminal when the negative terminal is connected. Disconnect the negative first; reconnect the negative last.

If a computer in fact got fried, my first guess would be the TIPM. A new one from the dealer is about $250. If they install it, it should be less than an hour's labor.
Some dealers have been known to charge way more than that, though.

The best thing to do may be to have a dealer put the scan tool on your Jeep. The easiest way to test all the systems is with their scan/diagnostic tools.

GENERALLY...... with the key on and the dash lights pop on that's a good indication that the ecm ( computer ) is still working correctly ( most of the time ) I would personally lean towards you fried something in the tipm and that's where your problem lies....... you could also do the key on and off trick to see if you pull any codes
