Default Front drive shaft

The boot is torn on my buddies front drive shaft he wants to know if he can just change the boot. I told him the whole drive shaft needs to be changed. Am I wrong? Can u just change the boot?

Also if the shaft needs to be replaced it should be fairly easy job right? No special tools needed?

My guess is that you probably could replace the boot. But I am sure you would probably need to take it off disassemble it clean out any old grease sand mud dirt ext. re grease then put the boot on. ( assuming its still in good condition) then install.

Or you could find a used one from someone on the forum or in a junkyard. In good condition. And swap.

Or you could buy a new aftermarket one that is easily serviceable and much stronger.

I would do the aftermarket if it were mine especially if it is lifted or planning on lifting it more than 3"

Teraflex did a video about installing a new one on u tube.

Good luck.

If its the middle boot is not too big a deal. I wouldn't fix it because it's just gonna get torn again next time it gets flexed out . They rub on the lip of the tranny pan during articulation and get torn everytime.
Better off going aftermarket.

Thanks guys. I ended up getting ahold of a stock replacement for free. So I'm just gonna change it out for him. Maybe try to reboot it to keep it as a spare. He's never gonna lift it 3+ inches
