Default Front locker

I don't think my front locker is working, I can steer just fine which makes me think the light on the dash is lying. Any tricks to locking it? Or any ways to check it? Thanks.

Set the parking brake, jack up the front axle, lock it in (axle and t-case), then try to spin a wheel by hand. If it is unlocked the wheel will spin. If locked, it won't. Good luck.

why would being able to steer make you think the locker is not working?

My locker works great and I can steer just fine as well.

locked doesn't mean that you can only go straight. It means that when one wheel loses traction, as traction has the tendency to seek the path of least resistance (like when one wheel is up in the air and the other is in the mud), the locker ensures that both wheels get the same amount of traction. This may result in decreased turning ability.

I would debate the statement about ensuring "the same amount of traction", as that is a measurement of force acting on the tire, which will likely NOT be the same onat each point of contact (I think I understand what you were meaning though and really have over-analyzed this). Selectable lockers do make it harder to turn when engaged and don't "release" like an auto locker.

O.K. So debate it and give us a better explanation...my feelings won't be hurt. And yes, I do think you over-analyzed this as well. I was just trying to give some explanation. All these extra words could be something more useful.

here try this: http://www.jeepforums.com/forum/arch.../t-246192.html

Somehow I read over this too fast yesterday and didn't pick up on the fact that you can't actually turn the wheels. The locker has nothing to do with how far the wheels will turn. It WILL cause your Jeep to "push" when turning. Sorry if I confused things earlier.
