Frosted Jk Interior
Hello all,
I went out to my Jeep and the entire inside was covered in frost. There was a 1/4 layer on the dash, the radio, everything. I looked in the glove box after haing the heat blasting for 2 hours and there was still frost all over my Walther P22.
It was 14 F. out the night before. I was not born yesterday, nor did I just buy my first truck last week, and won't buy "it's a jeep thing"
I have exposed many vehicles to temps way way colder than 14 F and never had had this happen. Ok, It happened once in the Rover but I left all the windows down. The jeep had all windows up, doors shut, not much snow on the floor mats.
Has anyone had this happen? I am thinking if this is a regular thing the jeep wont last 5 years before things start to fail in the dash.

Hey Bend Bro'. I too am new to Jeeps and while not in Bend (where there is real winter), I am just north of you in Hermiston and we have had some really cold weather....gone days in the single digits or teens here and about 18" to 2 feet of snow.
I park mine in the garage, but at work it sits out in that weather for 9 hours stints and no frost as you describe, so there must be some moisture being retained inside of the rig that condenses on the cold parts.
Try using your defroster for a while before you park it at night as there should be a dehumidifier (actually part of the AC system) that should dry out the air. Even with my wet floor mats, I am not getting frost, so there must be some considerable amount of moisture inside your rig.
Hope you find it. Merry Christmas.

Like the others have said, it's a moisture issue.
In my previous vehicle I had carpet floor mats, and in the winter all the snow I would track in would get melted by the heater and soak the carpet. Then when I got in the car later and that ice started to melt I'd fog up inside.
Maybe check your mats for ice buildup and consider rubber ones if you don't already have some.

I live on the prairies in Canada and we suffer through some of the coldest conditions imaginable. I have had zero frost build up on the inside of the Jeep. In fact I've never had a vehicle warm up and blow heat that hot ever!
Do you live in a humid climate? Our winters get really dry here.

I installed 3/4" leveling spacers this afternoon on my 07 and went to take it for a test drive. The wife and I stopped at the local Chrysler dealership to look at the new Wranglers. There were about 20 new 08 & 09 models lined up and 80% of them had heavy condensation on the inside of the windows. We were very surprised to see this on Jeeps that weren't even off the lot yet. It's been raining alot in last week or two.
While it's not frost, its definitely moisture on the wrong side of the glass.

Down in the "Suthern" climes, I have heard of this happening to my airplane buddies. Usually just opening the doors for a few minutes allows the humidity to equalize, drying out the inside of the vehicle. Although the condensed moisture may still leave parts damp (once it goes from a gas to a liquid, water is loathe to return to gas easily).
This happened to me a couple of days ago. I parked the car in the morning at work.. there was no ice in it and when I got out 8 hours later there was frost/ice on the windshield inside! and on the freedom top panels and also the driver and passenger windows. I thought I was seeing things until I rubbed my finger on it. Needless to say because of reading posts about people blowing out their windshields because of the defroster being on high, I had to sit and wait at least a half an hour for the defroster on low to clear the damn thing. I had never seen this before on any of my other vehicles and my first assumption was that there was water under the mats.....wrong! bone dry. Have no idea what caused it and hasn't happened again...and in the year since I've owned her this is the 1st. Good to know I'm not the only one.
