Default Gas Spilleth Over...

Twice now I have filled up at the gas station and had the gas come gushing out as the pump clicked off when full. In both cases the tank was darn near empty and it was at the same gas station (different pumps). In both cases I put in the nozzle, put down the latch to keep the nozzle running (and not on the fastest setting), and stepped away. Just as the nozzle clicked off the gas just gushed out. Up to recently I was worried about a single drop of gas getting on the paint - twice now I have seen it flow down the side and over my bumper. Not a pretty site. I couldn't believe when it happened the second time. Anyone had this same issue? I am guessing it's a matter of filling an empty tank too quickly on a warm day But just curious if others have had the same issue.

As long as you wash it off with soap and water, it won't hurt the paint.

Yeah I just light it when it happens to me, burns it right off.

Really, chill out, when it happens, I instantly get mad at the gas station and use their winshield
brush to clean up the mess.

From "Used Gears" thread - ...From now on, anything I post about will be "attaboy posts", or a joke or two. I'm done arguing...

Hey Redneck, we (most of us) love your insight. You really make us think.

A bigger concern is the Evap system.

Your gas station has the pump pressure set too high. They want the gas customers in and out to increase sales, however if the gas goes in faster than the air in the tank can escape, the air will block the gas causing it to spray back. Straight poop.....

I kind of knew the answer from past experiences - but wondered why after so many fill ups this happened. I have to say in both cases I ran the tank very low before getting to the pump - so perhaps it makes sense. I am curious about the pressure - I didn't even think about that. fwiw, this did occur at a 7-eleven (Citgo I think?). In any event, I guess it's a reminder to keep an eye on the pump during fill up...
