GasCap error light still on even after replacing Evap Canister
Stock JK TechBulletin board forum regarding issues with OE (original equipment) components of the Jeep JK Wrangler (Rubicon, Sahara, Unlimited and X) such as factory suspension parts, engine, transmission, body parts, interior fixtures and the on-board computer.
I'm having similar troubles. I got the gas cap code. Took it to the dealer who replaced the cap. Then about a week later I get a code for a leak in the EVAP system. They pressure test it, can't find anything wrong, clear the code. Then the next day the EVAP code comes back.
Back to the dealer, yea! Hopefully they can figure this one out.
Just throwing this out there, as I had this come up last week, and took it to a reputable shop who ran a smoke test and found the issue quickly.
They found a sticky "ESIM Sensor", which is a device that has a plunger activated by vacuum pressure and senses the pressure if there is a leak. The mechanic pulled this and noticed the plunger mechanism wasn't moving freely.
The part from the stealership was $9. Charged me for the smoke test, the part, and 1 hour of labor.
After replacing the parts, did you actually have the codes cleared from the computer?
Not sure what the shop did to clear the codes. I would imagine if the sensor was working, the code would clear. Just like if you left your gas cap off, then put it back on.
I don't get it. After one of my fill-ups on the way to Arizona, I left the gas cap off and drove until i needed to fill up again, and didn't get a light. in my opinion, if you have a light that says gas cap, it should tell you when your gas cap is off. not when you have a misaligned o-ring under the vehicle.

The light will not go off by itself until the vehicle goes through an entire self check cycle or 2. Depending on driving conditions, this could be as much as 4 or 5 hundred miles.
First of all, howdy! I'm a proud KJ owner. Having been a previous WJ owner, I am thrilled to own a KJ.
I too had the dreaded gascap error. I read all the blogs. Replaced the cap, vapor canister purge valve and finally the Evaporative Emissions System Leak Detection Pump (which attaches to the evap canister). The last one I changed was almost the least expensive and fixed the issue. Once I removed the detection pump, I could see it was broken inside.
To replace the detection pump is simple. The hardest part is jacking up the rear or backing it onto ramps. Once you find it, remove the hose and wires attached to it and twist it off pressing the locking tab. The reverse the process for the new pump. Took me about 15 minutes.
