Are the folks with the warning lights using a locking gas cap? I went to buy one from the dealer the other day, and was talked out of it. The parts guy says they leak causing the light to come on.

The gas cap light will come on After the pcm does an evap test, and sees a leak in the evap system. check gas cap if its off or loose tighten. Next time test is ran and dosen't see leak problem fixed. If it sees a leak check engine light on.
The evap test is usually ran over night or if its been sitting for a while.
but condictions have to be right. a full tank or below a 1/4 tank most of the times. it uses the natrual vacuum of the fuel tank to do a evap test.
and checks to see if any gas vapors are leaking.that is why You can drive after a fill up and light dosen't come on.
It is safe to drive anywhere Your going .
If You check engine light is FLASHING while Your driving then Your doing DAMAGE to the Cat. converter.engine mis-fire or too much fuel ect.

So I have th GASCAP warning light and came to search why i have it. It says it may be the EVAP canister hoses so i go out and look to see if there are any hoses that fell off and i crawl under the car and there is NO CANISTER haha! guess I'm getting a relocation kit and a new one.

Sure glad it has that little plastic strap on it so that I could put it back on.

So here is what I don't get.
I lost my cap a few months ago. Drove for a week or so without one waiting for the locking cap from the dealer. Check engine light was on, gascap warning was not. Randomly a couple of days ago, after driving to the beach, the gascap warning came on, but no check engine light. I clicked the cap, took it off and put it back on, and looked at the evap canister. No real cause that I can see. Any thoughts?
