Default gascap warning chime

Ok so here's an odd one, my gascap indicator came on this morning. Sitting a lil over half a tank and the cap was screwed tight. I already undid and rescrewed it on but no luck. Is there some magic dance to reset the computer like for oil changes or am I missing something? Its a 07 auto with a locking gascap and 43000 miles. Any ideas?

If I remember correctly, it SHOULD reset itself after 3 starts without an issue.

The check engine code will probably be something about evap / emissions. They might try to sell you a new gas cap. Anyway, that code covers any fuel leak so make sure all fuel lines and connections are in good condition.

And depending on your states laws and / or the willingness of the salesperson to help you, he may not be able to reset that code. I worked for advance auto for a while in MD and it is illegal to erase a code. Puts liability on store.

The check engine light has to do with the emission system I believe the warranty is 5yrs or 50K miles you should still be under warranty.

I had this problem on my truck and had to depressurize the lines. But the more I think about it the more I think its the evap can. Anyone know how much one is and how hard it is to replace?

Well I got the dreaded p0456 code. The ole small evap leak so....as for the warranty, I bought it used so no warranty for me. I don't really have the time to search for a leak so off to the shop I go I guess...

I was throwing similar codes (Gas Cap off and small evap leak)... I looked to see what the status of my evap can was... Well lets say that it actually relocated itself.........to the trail some place.....

Guess I should've put on Woods's relocation kit I have sitting in my garage. I guess I found the motivation now.
