Default Grease on ball joints?

Just had all four of my front ball joints replaced, was under the Jeep today and noticed one of them had black grease all over the outside of the rubber gasket that covers it. Is this from when they installed the new ball joints, are did they screw something up?

Clean off the grease and look for a hole or tear in the rubber seal. They may have torn it during the installation. Do the replacement ball joints have grease fittings?

No they do not have grease fittings. I just checked, no holes but I can spin the rubber around freely with my fingers (well there is a little resistance). There is a little grease on the lower one also. Do they pack them with grease first?
