Default Half door question

I found a guy who is willing to trade me his factory half doors for my full doors. But i have a few questions before I go through with it. Do the half doors have power locks? And also what do you do about key situation? Should i make a copy of my key and have him make a copy of his before the trade?

Any input is appreciated

Might be best to swap out the key mechanism in each door.

How much is involved in doing so?

I just did the same swap last week. I made 2 keys for him and he made 2 keys for me. We swapped and it has worked out perfect! I had manual full doors so we didn't have to worry about electronics.

I was hesitant about my hardtop sealing with the soft upper windows but it works perfect!

I love the look of the half doors. Its the only way to go. The Jeep looks so much better.

I don't think half doors come out of the factory with power locks, BUT the factory lock mechanism will fit in the half door. My Jeep came with full doors w/ power locks/windows. I bought a Mopar half door kit and power lock mechanism. I actually messed up on the lock cylinders, so they are there for looks only. I lock and unlock my door via the key fob. I figure if I "lock myself out" I can just unzip the window.

The lock cylinder is held on by a sliding clip that you can reach if you take the inner panel off. Swapping lock cylinders shouldn't be that much of a hassle.

He can use your full doors, but the power lock mechanism will just be added weight. He may be able to have the computer reflashed to recognize the power locks, but I'm not sure if he needs to add any more wiring. If he's lucky, the factory harness may already set up for powerlocks/windows.

I recall a similar thread recently.

I haven't seen half doors with auto locks on them. There is a reason for this. Thieves will just slice your soft top and steal your stuff. If you leave your car unlocked, they'll still steal your stuff, but your top will be saved. Unless you have a hard top, and can find hard uppers (not yet available for a JK from what I've seen), you're better off just keeping the Jeep unlocked.

I bought a special "softtop" alarm that allows the alarm to work with no top on at all. The problem is that the softtop moves in the wind so I get false alarms when I run the alarm with the top up.

I love my half doors. I wish they made hard uppers with sliding glass windows like my TJ.

Aren't the door lock switches in the center somewhere? I feel like the jeep would recognize the power doors when you plugged them in, but how would you actuate them?

I'm going on memory here, since I haven't had doors on mine in years. Half doors, if you must have doors, are they way to go, though.

Nope, they are on the ful doors. The half doors don't have any place for the switch, so I don't have any. When one door unlocks they all unlock. Otherwise they are locked and unlocked via the key fob.

The power windows are in between the two center vents.
