Default Hard top soft top question

I'm a former YJ hard top owner looking to purchase a new or newer JK Rubicon. I live in Wisconsin and my old hard top worked great in the rain, snow, and freezing temps. The summers here get downright nasty with the heat and was contemplating purchasing a soft top for the summer time but sold it before I was able to buy one. My question might be a simple one but.....if I purchase a soft top JK, will I be able to buy a hard top from Best Top or Wild Boar and have it installed without a problem? Also, if I did purchase a JK hard top off the lot and did not come with a soft top, would I be able to buy an aftermarket soft top and be able to install it? I was told a while ago that the aftermarket soft and hard tops were just replacements and were not supposed to be mixed. Any input into this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Mine came with only a hardtop and I purchased an almost new soft-top with tinted windows and all the hardware in like new condition from someone who didn't want the second top. I see these all the time on Craigslist for $200 to $500. Works great, doesn't leak and I'd do it again.

If you want both tops, buy the HARD top from the factory. There is no good third-party alternative to the OEM hard top. Lots of choices for soft tops in the summer, though. I have a Bestop TrekTop and love it. $518.

Or consider the Dual Tops group from the factory.

If you're buying a new Jeep, I'd recommend going with the dual top package. Why? Because the 2010 soft top is that much better than the previous models. Easier to open, easier to close and no leak issues that I've found yet.

get soft top from factory, cause bestop obviously cant figure out how to make a soft top anymore, since there backordered 2-4 weeks. all i can say is good luck if you want a bestop before this summer is over.

x2 Get the dual top option if possible. Otherwise, get a hardtop Jeep off of the lot and find a soft top for sale on here or locally.

I purchased mine used with hard top and then picked up a used soft top a couple of months ago. Pretty simple conversion and I saved big money. Bought the soft top for about $350 locally and it included everything I needed. Works great.

I bought a 2010 Unlimited Rubi with both tops. This is my first Wrangler and was surprized at how hot it is inside when left in the sun. I've decided that we won't use the soft top and have removed it and is for sale. I also bought a set of Hothead Liners to reduce the heat. They really work. Much cooler in the sun and the ac brings it down faster. I'm happy with it now. OH, I'm up near Stevens Point.

If you bought a jeep that came originally with a soft-top only, then you'll have to install the wiring loom and washer hose to run the rear demister and wiper\washer as well as install the demister switch on the dash and the rear wiper controls on the steering column stalk. Unless you can live without the rear demister and wiper that is.
